Directed by Jugal Hansraj, ‘Pyaar Impossible’ has Priyanka Chopra and Uday Chopra in lead roles. It also stars Anupam Kher and Dino Morea in a special appearance. The movie is made under the banner of Yashraj Films and is written by Uday himself. In fact, it’s a flick aimed at resurrecting Uday’s sagged acting career.

Uday Chopra as Abhay

Abhay is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged, bespectacled geek. He has two loves in his life, his first is Alisha and the second, computers. We meet him first in University where he falls for Alisha, knowing that there can never be anything between them. Later, when we meet him again, he is trying to launch his career.

He comes face to face with Alisha again and we see that he still loves her, the same as he always did. Abhay is the kind of person who has no confidence in himself and is shy and reticent yet at the same time he is so full of love for Alisha that he is willing to live the rest of his life loving a person who he knows he will never be with.

Priyanka Chopra as Alisha

Alisha is a vivacious, sexy girl who everyone loves in college. The free spirit that she is, doing what she likes, she sometimes goes overboard with it.

We first meet her in university and then years later, after college, when life has taught her some lessons and made her more mature. But somewhere behind that maturity she is the same bumbling, crazy girl she used to be, with the same free spirit.

Synopsis

In Ankert University, California, Alisha (Priyanka Chopra) is the name of that dream everyone wished came true. The most beautiful girl on campus, she makes hearts flutter like leaves in the wind. A snap of her fingers and a line of boys, waiting on her every whim. Everybody Loves Alisha!

It is no surprise then that Abhay (Uday Chopra) loves her too. More than his computer programs and MAC stores he thinks of Alisha. Who is Abhay? Abhay is a nerdy, awkward, socially challenged, bespectacled geek of the college who is so far removed from her world that she doesn't even know that people like him actually exist.

This is a love story of impossible proportions. How can a man like Abhay ever hope to be with a woman like Alisha? Therein lies the story...

Abhay has quietly loved Alisha all his life. One day he musters up enough courage to go and express his true feelings to her and realizes that it is never gonna happen. He comes to terms with the fact that Alisha is a Princess and he is just a Geek. That is when their ways eventually part.

Later in life, their paths cross again, as Abhay is busy trying to launch his career. Fate again brings him face to face with the woman of his dreams, Alisha.

Will Abhay have the strength to believe in himself and attempt to achieve what he never thought possible?

Will Alisha ever be able to see the man behind those glasses, beyond what her idea of the perfect man is?

Is everything fate or can one take destiny in their own hands? Is this possible or just Pyaar Impossible?

A Woman for Every Zodiac Sign

Ashutosh Gowariker’s epics “Lagaan” (2001) and “Jodhaa Akbar” (2008) take their time — 224 and 213 minutes — to tell rousing tales of Indian heroics.

His new movie, “What’s Your Raashee?” (“What’s Your Sun Sign?”), an adaptation of a Gujarati novel by Madhu Rye, is epic in length only. A romantic comedy set in Mumbai, it clocks in at 195 minutes. That’s about two “Lady Eves” or almost nine 22-minute sitcoms. Then again, “Raashee” has the entire zodiac to cover.

Yogesh (Harman Baweja), a University of Chicago M.B.A. and part-time D.J., has a mission: marry as soon as possible to receive an inheritance and bail out his bumbling brother. Plan: meet a woman from each sign and choose one. There’s a college girl, a microbiologist, a beauty who has broken “the boundaries of virtue,” a take-no-prisoners businesswoman, and so on. Priyanka Chopra plays all 12 and manages to make each distinct (if, inevitably, sketchy). She’s the best thing about the movie.

The formula of 12 women, 12 dates (and about 12 song-and-dance routines), has a built-in tedium. Mr. Gowariker, in no hurry, throws in a couple of subplots too.

And what does Yogesh want? As played by Mr. Baweja, he’s an amiable blank, waiting for love to strike. He connects with the Virgo, a doctor who takes him on her rounds in a village, but he rejects her because she doesn’t want to move to Chicago with him. You can make oodles of money as a specialist in America, he tells her. My work is here, she says.

At this point, a good Hindi-movie hero ought to stop and examine his values. Not Yogesh. He just moves on to Taurus.
